Enter your clock-in and clock-out times for each day. The calculator totals your hours and minutes, and can subtract a lunch break automatically. Results show both total time and decimal hours (useful for payroll).
Decimal time expresses minutes as a fraction of an hour. 30 minutes = 0.5 hours, 15 minutes = 0.25 hours, 45 minutes = 0.75 hours. Payroll systems often use decimal hours because they're easier to multiply by an hourly rate.
In the US, federal law (FLSA) requires overtime pay of 1.5× regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek. Some states have daily overtime rules. This calculator shows total and overtime hours separately so you can apply the correct rate.
A standard full-time schedule is 2,080 hours per year (40 hours/week × 52 weeks). Subtract paid holidays (typically 10–15 days = 80–120 hours) for actual scheduled hours: approximately 1,960–2,000 hours per year.
Because clock times don't add like normal numbers — a shift from 9:45 AM to 5:15 PM isn't an obvious subtraction, and totaling five days of mixed shifts by hand is where small arithmetic errors creep into a timesheet. The calculator handles the AM/PM and minute-carrying automatically, so the total is exact every time.
